Nutrition, Hydration, MUST and Waterlow Training

Facilitated by Registered Clinicians with extensive experience

Overview

Facilitated by registered nurses with first hand clinical experience, this ½ day blended learning course allows attendees to gain theoretical and practical pressure area care knowledge.

This training course is intended to cover all aspects of nutrition, MUST and waterlow including practical application within a classroom or virtual environment.

Why Is It Important?

People must have their nutritional needs assessed and food must be provided to meet those needs. This includes where people are prescribed nutritional supplements and/or parenteral nutrition. People’s preferences, religious and cultural backgrounds must be taken into account when providing food and drink.

‘MUST’ is a five-step screening tool to identify adults, who are malnourished, at risk of malnutrition (undernutrition), or obese. … A flow chart showing the 5 steps to use for screening and management BMI chart Weight loss tables Alternative measurements when BMI cannot be obtained by measuring weight and height.

The Waterlow Scale, is the most frequently used pressure sore risk assessment and prevention tool in the UK. Easily understood by nurses dealing directly with patients, this scale uses a series of evaluations of different patient attributes, each receiving a score based on severity. These numbers are then summed up to create one larger comprehensive number representing the patient’s overall risk of pressure sore development.
